We need to make our own decisions!!!
Walking ever so slow into the guidance room the student really has no idea what to expect. The room smells of NCR paper and incense. The room is decorated with pictures of friends in mountain climbing gear and diplomas. The diplomas have more than an inch of dust on them as if they have been forgotten. As the guidance counselor looks at an open file he gently lifts a granola bar past his unshaven face and proceeds to tell you about college.
His glasses falling slightly as he pushes them toward his brow leftover granola falls to the desk. His face seems familiar and his voice odd. His wisdom is long overdue and scripted like a telethon. Slowly his voice fades but you notice his lips still move. As you began to block out his voice you find yourself asking questions of why. Why am I listening to a man that has no idea what a college looks like today. His mid-thirties salary barely allows him to shave let alone alloying him the affordability to motivate himself.
His faint and dry humor makes many conversations of the academic world prolonged. As he hands you a set of application for colleges of your choice he makes a sullen gesture of good luck. Not hearing a damn thing he said you are swamped with so many decisions of what to do. What is the right college for me? What will I do for living accommodations? When will I be done with all of this so I can spend my life miserably working? Will my mom and dad be able to afford school or do I have to get a job while in school? I just don’t know what to do.
Maybe you are already in the work force and you have been passed over several times for a promotion and you are tired. What ever it is you have come to a cross road in your life a change in your situation. Now it is time to perform and to do something other than the norm. What ever the reason is I want you to know that it does not have to be a hard decision. There are a ton of schools and a ton of options but, there are some key things to ask and look for.
I can answer your questions of doubt and the unknown.

Education is power!!!
The excuses have got to stop!!! Sometimes when taking to students one objection always comes up as to why a student should not go to school. I do not mind the occasional question every now and then. The only thing that really turns a student away from the admissions process is excuses. Most admissions departments have a set agenda as to what is first, second and so on. So, I am letting you know to fully enjoy the admissions process you have to listen. The admissions counselors you will be speaking to at most universities have been trained to handle the conversation. Full control in an admissions interview is the one goal of the counselor all the way up to the close. The one thing you have to remember with all main stream private institutions is it is a sales process to them.
Private institutions have budget to meet that is solely funded by the customer just like a business. Public colleges are partially funded by the public sector. The funding and how it gets to the university is the determining factor if a university is public or private, that’s why private schools are more expensive. However, you get better customer service at a private college because after all is said and done you are still a customer. Most of your private mainstream colleges able you to work and attend school at the same time.
Last point I want to make about mainstream private institutions is the ability to finish quicker, achieving a faster return on your investment. Do your research and make sure your college or university fits you and helps you through the academic turmoil.
